Grow Spaces
Kratky Grow Spaces
The Kratky method works almost anywhere a container fits, but every space changes the details. Pick the one that matches where you grow.

Choose Your Space
Each guide below covers one kind of grow space: what it gives you, what it lacks, what grows well there, which containers suit it, and the problems that come up most often.
Kitchen and Windowsill
The easiest place to start: a few jars of herbs or lettuce on a sunny sill, within reach of the kitchen.
Apartments and Small Spaces
Growing with limited room, limited light and a lease that rules out drilling or plumbing.
Balcony and Patio
Outdoor Kratky in containers, with full sun but also rain, heat, wind and mosquitoes to plan for.
Under Grow Lights
Shelves, closets and basements where a light does the work the sun can't, all year round.
Greenhouse
More light and a longer season, but heat and cold swings that hit a still container of water hard.
Off-Grid and No Electricity
Cabins, sheds and anywhere without power, where a passive method makes the most sense.
Classroom and Kids' Projects
A low-cost, pump-free project for teachers, parents and group leaders, with safety notes for the adult in charge.
Not sure which fits?
Start with how much light the space gets. Light decides more about what you can grow than anything else, and it is the one thing a Kratky container can't make up for.
